If you also have a dog, you may have noticed an interesting phenomenon: dogs seem to particularly enjoy staring out the window, sometimes even staying still for a long time. When I first started raising a dog, I also wondered, why is that? After raising dogs for so many years now, I finally understand!
1. Missing my master
Many office workers have pet dogs. When they go to work, they often have to leave their dogs alone at home. As dogs are usually very dependent on their owners, they may stand by the window after their owners leave, watching them go out, or guarding the door, waiting for their owners to come home. These are all expressions of a dog's longing for its owner.
2. Inspecting one's own territory
In our human understanding, home refers to the space enclosed by four walls, but for dogs, their views are different. They believe that their territory far exceeds that of a home, and everything outside the window also belongs to their territory. The daily activity of dogs is to guard this territory and check if there are any other animals invading, which is their nature and not an exaggeration. If you find that your dog often barks outside the window, it may be because it sees other animals and feels its territory has been violated, but it cannot resist, so it feels angry and helpless.
3. I want to go out and play
Dogs have a natural need for exercise. If they are kept indoors for a long time and lack sufficient outdoor activities, they may exhibit behaviors of longing for the outside world, such as staring at the scenery outside the window or constantly scratching the curtains. If your dog exhibits these behaviors, it may mean that it needs more physical exercise and social interaction. Consider taking it for regular walks or participating in some dog entertainment activities, which not only helps its physical and mental health, but also enhances the emotional connection between humans and pets.
4. In order to bask in the sun
Even puppies like to bask in the sun. Although they are not as fanatical as cats, puppies believe that 'having it is better than not having it'. Sunbathing a puppy can help evaporate moisture from its hair, prevent skin diseases such as fungal or parasitic infections, and maintain skin health. This is also beneficial for bone health and promotes growth and development, it's truly a win-win situation!
5. Curiosity is heavy
Dogs are born with a strong desire to explore. They like to gaze out the window at home, hoping to explore life outside. Whether it's birds flying in the sky, insects in the trees, pedestrians and other dogs outside the window, they deeply attract their curiosity. Dogs with strong curiosity are usually easier to train, and owners can take advantage of this by taking their dogs out for training and giving them their favorite snacks as rewards in a timely manner, which will help the training process proceed smoothly.
6. Bored
Sometimes dogs stare out the window, perhaps just out of boredom and wanting something to do. Imagine that when we are busy with work and daily chores, dogs can only wander around at home, without phones to play or TV to watch, and their entertainment options are relatively limited. So, the constantly changing scenery outside the window has become a good way for them to pass the time
So, if your pet dog also likes to look out the window, it is recommended that you spend more time with it or take it for a walk to allow it to experience the outside environment more.
